Measure Your Square Footage with Google Earth
Want an accurate estimate before you even call us? You can measure your own driveway, roof, or patio in about two minutes — for free, right from your phone or computer. Here's exactly how.
Measure Any Surface in 6 Easy Steps
These steps work for a driveway, roof, patio, pool deck — any flat area you want a price on. We'll use Google Earth on a computer (the easiest version); mobile instructions are further down.
Open Google Earth
Go to earth.google.com in your web browser. It's completely free and needs no download — Chrome works best.
Search your address
Type your home address into the search box at the top-left and press Enter. The map flies straight to your property.
Zoom in on the area
Zoom in (scroll wheel or the + button) until you can clearly see the surface you want to measure from directly above — your driveway, roof, or patio.
Click the Measure tool
Click the Measure tool — the ruler icon in the left-hand toolbar. Your cursor becomes a crosshair.
Trace around the edges
Click once at a corner, then click each corner around the outer edge of the area. When you reach the end, click back on your starting point to close the shape — Google Earth fills it in and shows the size.
Read your square footage
Make sure the units say square feet (tap the unit dropdown if it shows meters), then read the area number. That's the number you type into our calculator!
✅ That's it. Pop that number into the price calculator and you'll get an instant estimate — no guessing, no waiting.
How to Measure Each Surface
Driveway & Concrete
Trace the driveway, then keep going to include the sidewalk and the walkway to your front door — that's how we price it. One continuous shape is fine.
Roof
Trace the outline of your roof from above. Since satellite view shows the flat footprint, add for the slope: multiply by about 1.3 for a normal roof or 1.5 for a steep one. Not sure? Just give us the footprint and we'll handle the rest.
Patio & Pool Deck
Trace the patio or pool deck area. For oddly shaped decks, measure the main rectangle and any extra sections separately, then add them together.
Measuring from a Mobile Device
No computer? No problem. You can do the same thing in the free Google Earth app (iPhone or Android):
Install & open the app
Download Google Earth from the App Store or Google Play and open it.
Search your address
Tap the search icon, type your address, and let it zoom to your home.
Tap Measure
Tap the menu, choose Measure, then tap to drop points around the edge of your driveway, roof, or patio.
Read the area
Tap to close the shape and read the area — switch to square feet if needed, then enter it in our calculator.
💡 Prefer Google Maps? You can also use maps.google.com — right-click your property, choose "Measure distance," and click around the area to close a shape and see the square footage. Google Earth is just a little easier for areas.
Got Your Number? Get Your Estimate
Drop your square footage into the calculator for an instant price — or just send it to us and we'll quote you fast. No obligation, ever.
